Right now we have a huge divide in America. We have two sides that have very different views of what direction the nation is headed. On one side, America is headed towards a bright future. They have faith that our newly elected leaders will “Make America Great Again”. On the other side we have some that have lost all hope in our great nation. They feel as though America is in store for four years of turmoil and despair. The fact of the mater is that there is no way to know what will become of the country until Donald J. Trump actually takes office.
Republicans have controlled both houses of Congress for a few years, yet not much has changed on Capitol Hill. Since the Republican Party has held 54 of the Senate’s 100 seats along with 247 of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives congress has reached the lowest approval ratings in history. Both major political parties in the United States political system have been battling disapproval from the majority of citizens. This year people’s frustrations showed with some of the lowest voter turnout in decades.
Democrats are upset that the candidate they despise won the election. They are upset that Russia hacked their emails, which revealed their true nature. The Democratic Party began to unravel when President Obama the 2008 Presidential Election. Once the party saw a minority not only win, but by such a large margin it signaled to leaders of the party that it was a new age in politics. This win made the party that had been known for being the party of the blue collar, working individuals forget to continue to reach out to it’s constituency. From the 2008 Election up until now the Democratic Party has lost their majority status along with a Presidential Election.
Many Democrats have begun to react to the results of the 2016 Presidential Election the same way a lot of Republicans reacted to the results of the 2008 and 2012 Elections. Numerous Democrats have taken to protesting, creating the #NotMyPresident movement, and essentially trying to undermine the political process that they once heralded. Right now the shoe is on the other foot for Democrats. For many years they have had the luxury of knowing that they had a President on their side with a liberal leaning Supreme Court to boot. Now, Republicans have all the power which has caused many liberals to lose hope in the future of the United States, but that’s the last thing that we as citizens should do.
Right now is the time that Americans need to put their faith in all of our leaders. Americans need to stand together more than ever. Whether you like it or not President-Elect Donald J. Trump will be inaugurated on January 20th. What we as a nation must do is wish him all the success in the world because if he succeeds America succeeds. If he is able to make America even greater than it already is during his term as President then we should support him wholeheartedly.
